- DO NOT harm anyone on the internet by any of following means as it’s NOT permitted legally:

        o Indulge in thefts of information and software tools from internet based sites & systems.

        o Send anonymous threats

        o Modify information on website, systems and network components owned by others.

- To avoid being victims on the internet, avoid any of the following acts:

        o Open emails received from unknown sources.

        o Respond to emails, which declare you winner for a lottery, you never bought!.

        o Open and forward chain emails, with or without attachments.

        o Use of pirated software downloaded from unauthorized sites.

        o Make payment using links received in emails without authenticating the site link.

        o Update information on bank account links received in emails without authenticating the site link.

- Use software tools and services after due authentication of the sites and people on the internet.

Note: Every user on the Internet is traceable. While your identity could be anonymous/hidden to net users, but NOT to the law enforcements!


Good Practices


- Secure your system adequately so that unauthorised persons can not access your system without your knowledge or take control of the same. Secure it like your safe using measures as listed:

        o Always use antivirus, firewall.

        o Always update computer operating system, antivirus patches regularly.

        o Scans systems periodically to keep check on viruses and spyware.

        o Always use origional software and applications.

        o To keep cost under control, use open source tools from authorized sources, instead of pirated software downloaded from unknown sources.

        o Use password to restrict access to important information.

- DONOT upload personal information on public sites when NOT needed.

- Keep a backup of important information.

- Configure systems and devices (Modem, Operating system, Antivirus, Firewall) to avoid misuse by unauthorized.

- Don't indulge in chat with unknown and unrecognized people on the internet.

- Don’t provide personal information (name, phone number, address, school name, family details, own pictures, and family pictures, etc.) to anyone on the internet.Ask your parents before giving out any information.

- Inform elders in family immediately if someone requests or forces you to share any personal information on the internet through chat or email.

- Inform elders in family immediately in case of a threat or uncomfortable experience the internet.

- Don't send or receive any offensive or seductive messages, material and pictures to or from anyone. Local laws don’t permit such acts.

- Don't indulge in unsocial activities like unethical hacking, information threat. It’s a legally punishable offence.


DO’S AND DON’Ts for Parents


- Keep a watch on childern's activities on the Internet.

- Keep computers in public places such as living room, instead of bedrooms.

- Block adult sites using firewall.

- Advise children to inform elders in case of any threat or uncomfortable experience on the internet.

- Instruct children to avoid face-to-face meeting with anyone they they meet online.
